Butters & Waxes
Beeswax is a natural hydrating ingredient that has has emollient, soothing and softening properties that help the skin retain moisture. We source our beeswax locally and use it in all of our lip balms for super soft, kissable lips - it is also the not-so-secret ingredient in our Honey Bee Soap and our Vermont Mountain Soap.
Chocolate for your body without the calories. ;-) We strictly use unrefined, pure cocoa butter in our winter-y body butters (think Cocoa Peppermint!) not just because it's incredibly yummy but because it's the perfect butter for winter skin in our Northern States. Cocoa butter contains natural antioxidants and is naturally rich in Vitamin E, which helps to soothe, hydrate, and balance the skin. Cocoa butter is a natural source of vitamin E and is fantastic at keeping your skin lovely.
Kokum Butter comes to us all the way from India and is a harder butter with a slight earthy scent that is easily absorbed into the skin. It smoothes and softens the skin. I personally find it amazing in my facial and body butters but I also have extremely dry skin, it might be a little too much for anybody with normal skin, which is why we only use it for our custom orders. It is a supreme choice for damaged, dry and aging skin.
Native to South and Southeast Asia, Mangos aren't just delicious in smoothies! Mango butter is traditionally used for its moisturizing, skin softening, skin loving, soothing and protective properties because it is a great source of essential fatty acids that add soothing moisture to dry skin as well as hair. Since it's a non-greasy butter (because who needs grease, right?), it is a staple in our summery light body butters. Mango & summer ... hmmmm.
Shea butter hails from Africa, where it has been used for centuries for its moisturizing properties. Shea butter is not just naturally rich in Vitamins A and E but also chock full of essential fatty acids and other vitamins and minerals and is ideal to moisturize and pamper dry skin. If you have dry or somewhat damaged skin, Shea butter is going to be your new best friend! It is an intense moisturizer that leaves skin super soft. We use it in our soaps, body butters and lip balms and absolutely love it.
Shea butter leaves skin smooth, supple and soft. It prevents ashy skin, chapping and pretty much does anything but clean the house for you.
Tucuma is another exotic butter that is native to the Brazilian Amazon. It is super rich in lauric, myristic and oleic acids, has high amounts of Vitamin A and is considered to have excellent emollient and skin softening properties. Tucuma is pretty hard at room temperature but melts immediately on contact with the skin, making it perfect as a massage butter or body balm. It provides ample moisture and keeps skin soft, smooth and nourished.
This powerhouse of a butter is native to Central and South America and is exceptionally rich in essential fatty acids and is excellent for dry or mature (ahem!) skin. It has a very strong earthy scent - some like it (I happen to fall into that category), others find it rather overwhelming. However, fact is that Ucuuba butter is an amazing exotic butter. It leaves your skin hydrated and smooth and not at all oily. It's full of of fatty acids and fats and can penetrate quickly through the skin and to help maintain its moisture.
GMO-free. Our Soy Butter is white in color with a very mild scent and is choke full of lecithin, sterolins, vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids and isoflavones. Soy butter easily penetrates into the skin and it packs a punch of moisture that rehydrates the skin and is just perfect for softening dry, chafed and damaged skin. It also makes for a great massage butter (just in case you managed to talk your partner into giving you a relaxing back rub!)
Lard makes for fantastic soap! It is a soft, creamy, white oil that produces a very white, very hard bar of soap that produces a stable, conditioning, long lasting lather. It's absolutely awesome, doesn't smell like pork in the final product, doesn't clog pores, is super creamy and can be locally sourced. Oh, and it's all natural. A fantastic fat that doesn't get enough credit.
Beef tallow is uniquely compatible with our skin’s biology and leaves it supple and nourished. Now big cosmetic companies will tell you that tallow is "scum" that clogs pores. Nothing could be further from the truth. Tallow from grass fed Vermont cattle contains a boatload of minerals, fat soluble vitamins, micronutrients and because its composition is so similar to that of our own skin, it absorbs very easily, leaving skin soft, supple and incredibly toned. In short - animal fats have gotten an undeservedly bad rap, mostly because the "big guys" are worried about their bottom line. In all honesty, you could slather yourself with Beef Tallow from head to toe and your skin would love you for it.
