Oils

We use only the most skin loving & nourishing oils in our handcrafted, all-natural body products. Read on to learn more about the ingredients we use. Organic whenever possible.

Oils

Sweet Almond Oil

I personally have the driest of dry skins and love almond oil in my body butters. My skin just drinks it up. Sweet Almond Carrier Oil softens and conditions the skin and is just awesome for super dry skin but might be a tad rich for folks with oily skin. It is rich in proteins & vitamins and is considered extremely nourishing - particularly when used regularly. It is an all-around badass oil that usually works well for most skin types (check to make sure you're not allergic to it since it's made from nuts). We use it in our lip balms for plump, healthy lips. It's also one of the staples in our yummy, non-greasy, all-natural body butters. We encourage our customers to do their own research when looking at ingredients and their benefits and recommend you talk to your medical practitioner about any medical issues.

Avocado Oil

Avocado Carrier Oil contains a boatload of vitamins (namely Vitamins A, B1, B2, D, E) as well as Beta carotene. It is super useful for dehydrated and undernourished skin that has suffered damage from sun and other factors (like that time you decided that hiking in Death Valley during February without sun lotion would be "fine". Yep. Sadly, this happened more recently than I'd like to admit). Avocado oil easily penetrates dry skin, making it ideal for mature (ahem!) skin.

Castor Oil

Castor oil has been used for health and beauty for ages. It is incredibly soothing and lubricating to the skin because it is rich in fatty acids & acts as a humectant, meaning it attracts moisture to the skin. Who doesn't love that? Used in small percentages in our handmade soap, it also adds a phenomenal amount of bubbles.

Coconut Oil

The organic Coconut Oil we use here at Vermont Cowgirl comes from 100% fresh and matured coconuts. It has a slight coconutty smell that's simply divine and absorbs fairly quickly into the skin, where it immediately goes to working its moisturizing magic. It is non-comedogenic (meaning it doesn't clog up pores) and is suitable for all skin types. Coconut oil is what hardens our soaps & gives them excellent bubbles ... which is why it's a main ingredient in our famous Vermont Cowgirl Sea Salt Soap Spa Bars! I also sneak it into the dogs' raw food every once in a while for gorgeous coats all around. It's important to know the melting point of Coconut Oil, which is hardly ever liquid here in Vermont due to its melting point being 76 degrees. Below that temperate, it's rather solid but melts upon coming into contact with the skin, it melts right into it.

Hemp Seed Oil

Organic Hemp Seed Oil is full of omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids (the good, healthy fats) is super nutritious (inside & out). It's fantastic for cooking as well as as a cosmetic oil although the illegal Cannabis association tends to reduce its popularity. To clarify: this oil won't get you high and is totally safe to use. Hemp Seed Oil closely matches our own skin's lipids and so the essential fatty acids are readily absorbed into the skin. We like using small amounts of hemp seed oil in some of our soaps. The only downside of using hemp seed oil is the rather short shelf life so any products you see containing hemp will be made to order - they will also need to be used within six months of shipping in order to ensure a fresh product.

Macadamia Nut Oil

Macadamia Carrier Oil is high in mono-unsaturated fatty acids, omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, contains palmitoleic acid (which promotes soft skin) and is a fantastic regenerative oil. If I could only use one oil in my body butters, it would have to be macadamia nut oil. It's just that great and also amazing in facial and baby products. If you have tricky skin, give Macadamia Nut Oil a try. Note that it's not for folks with nut allergies!

Rice Bran Oil

Rice Bran Oil is not just rich in vitamins, minerals & proteins, it's downright loaded with them. It has also tons of fatty acids and is a very mild & light oil that's perfect for dry, mature, delicate or sensitive skin. Definitely a great oil when your skin is screaming for additional moisture to keep it smooth. It's the perfect oil to create silky smooth and mild soap bars.

Organic Olive Oil

We use this organic olive oil in our super mild, all olive oil castile soaps that are just perfect for those with super-duper sensitive skin. It's so mild, it won't dry out skin while gently cleaning it. Perfect for babies, grandparents and everybody else in between. Olive Oil, not just for cooking!
